Light the route, not just the room
Stairs, landings and transitions may need different attention from decorative room lighting.
Avoid harsh contrast
Very bright points beside dark areas can make adaptation and visibility harder.
Replace failed lighting promptly
A dark route should not become normal simply because people know where obstacles are.
Leave fixed electrical work to qualified people
The safety benefit of better lighting does not justify improvised wiring.
